The Chhattisgarh High Court has highlighted a series of deaths and inadequate medical care at several disability care homes in the state, calling the situation ‘sorry’.
The Chhattisgarh High Court has formally flagged a troubling pattern of deaths and medical negligence in a number of homes that cater to persons with disabilities. In its observation, the court described the overall condition as a “sorry state of affairs” and urged immediate corrective action.
Investigations by the court‑appointed panel revealed that several residents had died without adequate medical supervision, and that basic health protocols were often ignored. The findings point to systemic gaps in staffing, emergency response and routine health monitoring within these facilities.
In response, the bench directed the state health department to launch a comprehensive inquiry, enforce stricter licensing norms, and ensure that qualified medical personnel are present at all disability care homes. The court also ordered regular audits to monitor compliance.
State officials have acknowledged the court’s concerns and pledged to cooperate fully with the inquiry, emphasizing that the welfare of vulnerable residents remains a priority.
The matter is expected to be reviewed in subsequent hearings, with the court monitoring the implementation of its directives closely.
