Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told BJP leaders that the central government will extend financial and infrastructural assistance to athletes from Mizoram.
During a gathering of BJP representatives, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that the central government will provide dedicated support to sportspersons hailing from Mizoram. The announcement came as part of a broader effort to strengthen the North‑East’s presence in national and international competitions.
Mandaviya outlined that the assistance will cover funding for training programmes, procurement of modern equipment, and development of sports infrastructure in the state. He also mentioned the possibility of scholarships and travel grants to enable athletes to participate in major events such as the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
The move aligns with the government’s policy to promote sports across under‑represented regions. Mizoram, known for producing talent in disciplines like boxing and weightlifting, is expected to benefit from the enhanced resources, officials said.
BJP leaders from the region welcomed the decision, stating that it will boost morale among local athletes and encourage greater participation at the grassroots level. State officials are set to coordinate with central agencies to implement the support scheme promptly.
Implementation details are being finalised, with the expectation that the first tranche of funds and infrastructure projects will be rolled out before the upcoming national sports calendar.
