The central government has granted site clearance for the construction of new airports at Kuppam and Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, paving the way for further development.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved the proposed locations for two new airports in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, covering the towns of Kuppam and Srikakulam. The site clearance marks the first major regulatory step after the state government submitted detailed proposals earlier this year.
State officials said the airports are intended to improve regional connectivity, boost tourism and support industrial growth in the bordering districts. Both sites are expected to be developed under a public‑private partnership model, though the exact financial structure has not yet been disclosed.
The clearance also aligns with the central government's broader push to expand the country's aviation infrastructure under the UDAN scheme. Construction is slated to begin once land acquisition and environmental clearances are completed, with operational timelines to be announced later.
Local stakeholders welcomed the decision, citing potential job creation and better access to national and international destinations for residents of the Rayalaseema region.
