Mandla district’s Bamhni Banjar branch of the Central Bank of India came under scrutiny after it failed to organise the traditional flag‑hoisting ceremony on 15 August, India’s Independence Day. The omission was reported by local media and quickly drew attention from authorities.
The Sub‑Divisional Magistrate of Mandla issued a formal order directing a probe into the incident, citing possible negligence on the part of bank staff responsible for the event. Officials have been asked to submit a detailed report on why the flag was not raised and to identify any procedural lapses.
Disrespect to the national flag is a punishable offence under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Act, 2021. The ongoing investigation will determine whether any legal action is warranted against the employees or the bank management.
