The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took the senior District Magistrate of Varanasi into custody on Tuesday amid allegations of corruption and misappropriation of public funds. The move followed a probe that uncovered irregularities in the allocation of development grants.
CBI officials conducted simultaneous raids at the DMM’s official office in Varanasi and his private residence in the city. Seized items included documents, electronic devices and cash, according to a statement released by the agency.
The DMM’s office spokesperson said the officer had been cooperating with investigators and that the case would be forwarded to the appropriate judicial authorities for further action.
