At a cabinet meeting held in New Delhi, Finance Minister Vaishnaw unveiled a ₹32,000 crore GOBARdhan Scheme focused on constructing a 4‑lane highway in Assam. The scheme, part of the government’s broader infrastructure push, is designed to improve road connectivity across the northeastern state.
The GOBARdhan initiative will see the development of a multi‑lane arterial road that is expected to link key commercial and transport hubs within Assam. By providing a smoother and faster route, the project aims to reduce travel time and enhance the movement of goods and people.
Officials say the highway will play a pivotal role in stimulating local economies, attracting investment, and integrating Assam more closely with national trade corridors. The project is slated to be executed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in partnership with Assam’s state authorities.
