Cabinet Approves Farmer Organisation Policy Effective Until March 2031

The Union Cabinet has approved a new policy governing farmer organisations, which will remain in force until March 2031.
In a cabinet meeting held earlier this week, the Union Cabinet gave its approval to a comprehensive farmer‑organisation policy. The decision marks a significant step toward formalising the role of farmer bodies across the country.
The policy sets out a legal framework for the registration, functioning and accountability of farmer organisations, and outlines mechanisms for financial support and capacity building. It is designed to operate for a ten‑year period, with its validity extending up to March 2031.
Officials said the long‑term horizon will provide stability for agricultural stakeholders and encourage greater participation in policy dialogues. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare will now draft detailed implementation guidelines and circulate them to state governments for coordination.
