Police in Buxar, Bihar, have detained a suspect accused of obtaining an ₹18 lakh loan from a rural bank by submitting forged fixed‑deposit receipts and fabricated documents.

The Itarhi police in Buxar district arrested a man suspected of fraudulently securing a loan of ₹18 lakh from a local rural bank. Investigators say the accused presented more than ₹20 lakh worth of counterfeit fixed‑deposit receipts (FDRs) along with other forged paperwork to obtain the credit.
Police disclosed that the fraudulent documents were meticulously prepared to mimic genuine bank records, enabling the suspect to convince bank officials of the existence of substantial deposits. The loan was disbursed before the bank discovered inconsistencies during a routine verification.
Following the discovery, a joint investigation by the district crime unit and bank officials led to the suspect's apprehension at his residence in Buxar. He has been remanded in custody pending further inquiry, and the bank is reviewing its document‑verification procedures to prevent similar scams.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious banking activity and have warned that those involved in document forgery will face strict legal action under the Indian Penal Code.
