Union minister Anurag Thakur said the opposition is trying to undermine key constitutional institutions following its recent electoral setbacks.

Union minister Anurag Thakur, speaking at a press briefing in New Delhi, alleged that opposition parties are deliberately targeting India’s constitutional bodies after suffering defeats in recent elections. He pointed to the Election Commission, the Supreme Court and other independent institutions as the focus of a coordinated campaign to erode their authority.
Thakur warned that such attacks threaten the democratic fabric of the country and could embolden attempts to politicise institutions that are meant to function impartially. He urged the opposition to respect the constitutional framework and refrain from actions that could destabilise governance.
The remarks came hours after the BJP registered setbacks in several state assembly polls, prompting senior party leaders to seek explanations for the loss of ground. Thakur’s comments reflect the party’s broader narrative that the opposition is using institutional criticism as a political weapon.
No immediate response was recorded from opposition leaders at the time of the statement. The issue is expected to feature in upcoming parliamentary debates on institutional reforms and electoral integrity.
