A BJP corporator struck a man who raised a question about the University Grants Commission during a public event of Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister, prompting a party MLA to object.
During a rally attended by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, a man in the audience asked a question concerning the University Grants Commission (UGC). A local BJP corporator responded by physically assaulting the questioner, delivering a slap in front of the gathered crowd.
The incident drew immediate attention from party representatives. An elected BJP MLA publicly condemned the corporator's actions, stating that violence has no place in political discourse and urging the party to take disciplinary measures.
Police were called to the scene, and the corporator was taken into custody for assault. The event continued after the matter was addressed, but the episode has sparked debate over decorum at political gatherings.
The BJP has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident, while opposition parties are likely to raise the issue in the state assembly.
