The Bihar state government is preparing a claim exceeding ₹10,000 crore to the Union government for damages caused by recent floods.

Heavy monsoon rains have triggered widespread flooding across Bihar, leaving homes, infrastructure and agricultural lands severely damaged. State officials have compiled loss estimates and are now ready to submit a formal demand for compensation to the central government.
The claim is expected to top ₹10,000 crore, reflecting the scale of destruction to public assets and private property. The Bihar administration plans to present the demand through the Chief Minister's office, seeking prompt financial assistance under existing disaster relief schemes.
If approved, the funds would be directed toward rebuilding roads, restoring electricity, and supporting affected families. The Centre has not yet responded, but the sizable request underscores the growing fiscal pressure on both state and union budgets.
State officials have indicated that the demand will be tabled in the upcoming meeting with the Union Ministry of Finance, aiming for a swift settlement before the next agricultural cycle begins.
