The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation will provide free bus travel to women and female students on 27-28 August 2026 as a Raksha Bandhan gesture.
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan 2026, the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) announced a special scheme granting free travel to women and female students on its fleet of buses. The concession will be applicable on Saturday, 27 August, and Sunday, 28 August 2026, covering all routes operated by BSRTC across the state. Female passengers will be allowed to board without paying any fare. The initiative, described by the corporation as a tribute to the bond between brothers and sisters, aims to encourage safe and affordable mobility for women during the festive period. Officials said the scheme will be implemented through standard ticketing systems, with staff instructed to verify gender and student status where required. No additional documentation is needed beyond usual identification. The free travel offer is part of the Bihar government's broader efforts to promote gender‑friendly public transport and to celebrate cultural festivals with inclusive measures.
