Bihar inmate breaks jail wall, fractures leg and is caught near temple

A prisoner in Bihar scaled a jail wall using a ladder, broke his leg during the escape and was apprehended near a temple, with a video of him speaking on a police mobile in hospital going viral.
A detainee at a Bihar correctional facility attempted to flee on Saturday by climbing over the prison wall with the aid of a ladder, according to local officials. The escape was staged from the Mandal Kara area of the jail complex and was quickly noticed by guards.
During the climb the inmate lost his balance, suffered a fracture in his leg and fell to the ground. He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he remained under police custody.
Footage captured inside the hospital showed the prisoner holding a mobile phone that police claim belonged to a constable. In the video he can be heard speaking to the officer, a clip that later spread across social media platforms.
Authorities have opened an inquiry into how the inmate obtained the phone and why the escape attempt was not prevented earlier. The jail administration said it is reviewing security protocols to avoid a repeat of such incidents.
