Bihar hits 5 million ‘Lakhpati Didis’ milestone, says CM Samrat Choudhary

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that Bihar is the first Indian state where 5 million women have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’, each possessing assets of at least one lakh rupees.
Patna, Aug 27 2026 – In a statement to the press, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary declared that the state has crossed the 5 million mark for women classified as ‘Lakhpati Didis’. The term refers to women whose total assets equal or exceed one lakh rupees, a benchmark often used to gauge financial inclusion among rural and urban households.
The milestone, according to the CM, reflects the impact of state‑run financial schemes, micro‑credit programmes and skill‑development initiatives aimed at empowering women. Over the past few years, the government has intensified efforts to provide low‑interest loans, promote self‑help groups and facilitate market access for women entrepreneurs.
Choudhary emphasized that the achievement is a collective success, crediting both the beneficiaries and the administrative machinery. He urged continued participation in existing schemes to further raise the economic standing of women across Bihar.
While the figure underscores progress, officials noted that the government will now focus on moving beneficiaries beyond the ‘Lakhpati’ threshold to higher income brackets, ensuring sustainable growth and reduced gender disparity.
