The Bihar state administration announced a five‑year grant of Rs 70 crore to encourage the establishment of new sugar mills in the state.

The state government of Bihar has unveiled a financial incentive package aimed at attracting fresh investments in the sugar‑manufacturing sector. Under the scheme, a total of Rs 70 crore will be disbursed over a period of five years to eligible new sugar mills.

The grant is intended to address the declining capacity of existing mills and to boost rural employment by fostering modern, high‑efficiency plants. Officials said the funding will be released in tranches linked to project milestones.

The move aligns with Bihar’s broader agricultural development agenda, which seeks to add value to the state’s substantial sugarcane output. Industry observers expect the incentive to improve the state’s share in the national sugar market.
