Sources say Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and former CM Nitish Kumar discussed retiring Deputy CM Vijeendra Yadav and appointing Nishant Kumar to the post ahead of the upcoming swearing‑in ceremony.
Patna, Bihar – In the run‑up to the next swearing‑in ceremony in Bihar, senior political sources report that Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary met former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to finalize the retirement of Deputy Chief Minister Vijeendra Yadav. The talks reportedly concluded with a consensus to replace Yadav with senior party leader Nishant Kumar.
Both leaders are said to have agreed that Yadav, who has served as deputy chief minister for several years, will step down at the upcoming ceremony. The decision is viewed as a strategic move to balance regional and caste equations ahead of the new government’s term.
Nishant Kumar, a long‑time member of the ruling coalition, is expected to be sworn in as the new deputy chief minister. His elevation is anticipated to strengthen the party’s foothold in key districts and signal continuity in governance.
The announcement comes as the state prepares for the formal oath‑taking of the new cabinet, which is expected to be held within the next few weeks. No official statement has yet been released by the chief minister's office.
Political analysts suggest that the reshuffle could influence policy priorities, especially in sectors such as agriculture and infrastructure, where the deputy chief minister traditionally plays a pivotal role.
