Bangalore International Airport Ltd said it will boost local recruitment and skill‑training programmes after community groups raised concerns over insufficient job opportunities for residents.
Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) has publicly addressed growing concerns that the Bengaluru airport facility is not providing enough employment opportunities for local residents. The statements were made following meetings with community representatives and local government officials who highlighted the perceived shortfall in hiring from the surrounding neighbourhoods.
BIAL said it will launch a targeted recruitment drive aimed at increasing the share of Karnataka‑based workers in both operational and ancillary roles. The airport authority also announced plans to partner with regional vocational institutes to offer skill‑development courses that align with the airport's technical and service requirements.
The company emphasized that its employment strategy will comply with existing state labour policies and that progress will be monitored through quarterly reports submitted to the Karnataka government. Officials added that the initiative seeks to balance the airport's rapid expansion with sustainable local economic benefits.
Stakeholders welcomed the move, noting that greater local participation could enhance community relations and support the broader growth of the aviation sector in the state.
