The Bhopal Municipal Corporation took decisive action this week by sealing an OYO-branded hotel that was functioning inside a residential building in Gautam Nagar, a densely populated locality of the city. Officials entered the premises after the establishment continued its operations despite earlier notices issued by the corporation.
According to municipal records, the hotel had been operating without the requisite commercial licence and in violation of zoning regulations that designate the building for residential use. A final warning issued to the hotel management went unheeded, leading authorities to enforce the seal and halt all guest services.
The sealing sparked a spontaneous walkout by nearby residents, who gathered in the streets despite heavy rain to voice their frustration over the illegal commercial activity in their neighbourhood.
