Bhopal MLA Questions Need for New Master Plan Draft

Congress MLA Arif Masood has challenged the government’s decision to draft a new master plan for Bhopal, asking why a new draft is required if the existing one was not formally cancelled.
On September 9, Congress MLA Arif Masood raised concerns in the Bhopal civic forum about the government's move to produce a new master plan for the city. He questioned the legitimacy of the directive, noting that no formal order had been issued to scrap the existing draft.
Masood argued that the theoretical approval given by the state authorities was insufficient to justify a fresh draft, especially when the earlier version remained in force. He urged the municipal corporation to clarify the legal basis for the new plan.
The MLA’s remarks come amid growing scrutiny of urban development projects in Bhopal, where residents have long awaited a comprehensive master plan to guide future growth.
The municipal corporation has yet to respond publicly to Masood’s query, but the issue has sparked debate among local stakeholders about transparency and procedural propriety in city planning.
