Bhopal mandates police verification for caretakers, nursing attendants and domestic helpers

Households in Bhopal must now obtain police verification before hiring any caretaker, nursing attendant or domestic helper, officials said.
The Bhopal municipal administration has issued a directive that any individual or family seeking to employ a caretaker, nursing attendant or domestic helper must first secure a police verification certificate. The move aims to curb fraudulent hiring practices and enhance the safety of vulnerable residents, especially the elderly and persons with disabilities.
According to the notice circulated by the local police department, applicants for the verification must submit identity documents and undergo background checks at the nearest police station. The verification process, which typically takes a few days, will be recorded in a centralized database accessible to employers.
Authorities have warned that employing staff without the mandatory clearance could attract penalties, including fines or legal action. The policy is part of a broader effort to regulate informal caregiving services and protect both workers and households from potential abuse.
