All scheduled banks will observe a holiday on September 14 for Ganesh Chaturthi, with closures varying by state as per the latest list from the RBI.

The Reserve Bank of India has confirmed that September 14 will be observed as a public holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi, leading to the closure of scheduled commercial banks nationwide. The holiday aligns with the Hindu festival celebrated across the country, and banks have been instructed to suspend routine transactions on the day.

A state-wise schedule released by the RBI details which banks will remain shut in each region. Most states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Delhi, will see a full shutdown of branches, while a few union territories have opted for limited services.

Customers are advised to plan cash withdrawals, fund transfers and other banking activities ahead of the holiday. Digital channels such as mobile banking and internet banking will continue to function, but on‑site services like cash deposits and cheque clearing will be unavailable until banks resume operations on September 15.

The announcement comes ahead of the festive rush, as devotees prepare for elaborate Ganesh immersions and cultural events. Bank officials have urged the public to avoid last‑minute queues by using online platforms for routine banking needs.
