Baba Mahakal Adorned with Bhang, Silver Crown and Garland on Aja Ekadashi at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple

On Aja Ekadashi, the idol of Baba Mahakal at Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain was ritually anointed and embellished with bhang, a silver crown, a trident, rudraksha beads and a garland of munda flowers.
The Aja Ekadashi observance at Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain featured a special puja for the presiding deity, Baba Mahakal. Priests performed a traditional Panchamrit abhishek, immersing the idol in a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar.
Following the ablution, the deity was dressed in a ceremonial adornment that included a coating of bhang, a silver crown, a trident (trishul) and a string of rudraksha beads. A garland made of munda (marigold) flowers was also placed around the neck, giving the idol a distinct festive look.
Temple officials noted that such embellishments are customary on Aja Ekadashi, a day revered by devotees for its association with Lord Shiva. Hundreds of worshippers gathered to witness the ritual and offered prayers for health and prosperity.
The event underscores the temple’s role as a cultural hub in Madhya Pradesh, where traditional rites are observed with elaborate decorations that attract both local believers and visitors from across the country.
