The Assam government has announced plans to construct 130 kilometers of new embankments and reinforce an additional 4,000 kilometers of existing flood control infrastructure across the state.
In a significant move to bolster flood preparedness, Assam is set to undertake a large-scale infrastructure development project. The state government has revealed its intention to build approximately 130 kilometers of new embankments.
Alongside the new construction, a substantial portion of the existing flood control measures will be reinforced. The plan includes strengthening around 4,000 kilometers of current embankments to enhance their resilience against the annual monsoon and resulting floods.
This initiative aims to significantly improve the state's capacity to manage and mitigate the impact of floodwaters, a recurring challenge for Assam.
