The Assam government announced a policy change reducing the minimum service period required for employee promotions from four years to three years.
The Assam state administration has issued a notification that the qualifying service period for government employees to be considered for promotion will now be three years, instead of the earlier four-year benchmark.
The revision is intended to speed up career progression for staff across various departments and to address concerns about prolonged waiting periods for advancement.
The new rule applies uniformly to all cadres of the state bureaucracy and takes effect from the date of the circular, unless further amendments are issued.
State officials said the move is expected to boost morale and improve efficiency, while no opposition to the policy has been reported so far.
