Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the BJP will hold a series of rallies across the state, a move that comes as opposition leader Rahul Gandhi is leading a protest march in the region.
Assam's chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party will organise a sequence of public rallies throughout the state. The schedule is intended to reinforce the party's presence ahead of upcoming electoral contests and to counter recent opposition activities.
The announcement coincides with a high‑profile protest march led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been touring several districts to highlight grievances over central policies. Sarma framed the BJP rallies as a democratic response, urging citizens to attend and engage with the party's development agenda.
State officials confirmed that the rallies will be held in major towns and district headquarters, with security arrangements being coordinated with local police. The BJP's state unit has pledged to focus on infrastructure, employment and social welfare themes during the events.
