The Assam education department is considering postponing Class X and XII board examinations as severe floods and the ongoing census have disrupted the exam timetable.
The Assam state education authorities have indicated that the scheduled Class X and Class XII board examinations could be delayed. Recent severe flooding across several districts has damaged infrastructure and hampered travel, making it difficult for students to reach exam centres. In addition, the nationwide census operation, currently underway in the state, has occupied many government facilities and personnel that were originally earmarked for exam administration.
Officials said the overlapping of these two large‑scale events forced a reassessment of the exam calendar. While no new dates have been announced, the department is reviewing alternative timelines to ensure that students can sit for the exams under safe and orderly conditions.
Parents and schools have been advised to stay alert for further notifications from the Assam Board of Secondary Education. The postponement, if confirmed, aims to prevent disruption to the academic year and to safeguard the integrity of the assessment process.
