The National HPV vaccination campaign has reached more than 90% coverage in Assam, marking a major milestone in the country's fight against cervical cancer.
The northeastern state of Assam has crossed the 90% mark in the National Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign, according to a report by India Today NE. The achievement reflects the concerted effort of the central and state health authorities to immunise eligible adolescents against HPV, a virus linked to cervical cancer.
The campaign, launched as part of the government's preventive health strategy, targets school‑going girls and other eligible groups across the country. Reaching such a high coverage level in Assam indicates that outreach activities, school‑based vaccination drives and community awareness programmes are bearing fruit.
Health officials said the progress underscores strong community participation and effective logistics. They aim to sustain the momentum to achieve near‑complete coverage in the remaining districts and replicate the model in other states where vaccination rates are lower.
