Under a government initiative to celebrate mothers and daughters, nearly 400 women were recognized in Amritsar on Thursday.

Amritsar witnessed a large-scale ceremony on Thursday as part of a state‑run Mother‑Daughter Appreciation Scheme. The event, organized by local authorities, aimed to acknowledge the contributions of women in families and society. Around 400 participants, referred to as "sakhis," received certificates and small tokens of appreciation.

Officials highlighted that the scheme seeks to promote gender equality and strengthen family bonds by publicly recognizing the role of mothers and daughters. The ceremony was held at a community hall in the city, with local dignitaries delivering brief speeches about the importance of women's empowerment.

The initiative, launched earlier this year, will continue to honor women across Punjab, with similar events planned in other districts. Organizers hope the visibility will encourage more families to support women's education and participation in public life.
