A.R. Rahman Responds to Criticism Over ‘Mangal Rang’ Song in Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana’

A.R. Rahman, the multiple‑Oscar‑winning music director, has addressed the growing criticism surrounding the track “Mangal Rang” from Ranbir Kapoor’s mythological film “Ramayana”. The song, released as part of the film’s promotional campaign, attracted mixed reactions on social media, with some listeners questioning its lyrical content and musical style.

In a brief statement to the press, Rahman said the backlash felt “like a pickle” – a metaphor he used to describe the sourness of the comments while emphasizing that creative work often invites diverse opinions. He added that the composition was crafted to suit the narrative context of the film and that he respects the audience’s right to critique.

Industry observers noted that Rahman’s response, though measured, underscores the heightened scrutiny faced by high‑profile projects in the digital age. The composer’s clarification is expected to calm the debate as “Ramayana” moves closer to its release date, with the song remaining part of the official soundtrack.
