Political activist Annamalai has publicly challenged the BJP’s approach to development, arguing that the party’s model, heavily influenced by Gujarat’s policies, needs to be reformed for Delhi’s unique needs.
Annamalai, a prominent political commentator and former member of the legislative assembly, delivered a scathing critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) development strategy in a press conference held in New Delhi on Tuesday.
He argued that the party’s blueprint, which has largely mirrored the rapid industrialisation and infrastructure push seen in Gujarat, fails to address the distinct socio-economic challenges faced by the capital city.
Annamalai warned that a one-size-fits-all approach could exacerbate Delhi’s housing shortages, traffic congestion and environmental degradation, urging the BJP to tailor policies to the city’s unique demographic and geographic realities.
The BJP’s spokesperson declined to comment on the remarks, while opposition leaders welcomed the call for a more nuanced development agenda that balances growth with sustainability.
