State officials claim that disaster response mechanisms and infrastructure have been upgraded, making Andhra Pradesh more resilient to cyclones than in 2014.
Andhra Pradesh officials told The Hindu that the state’s capacity to handle cyclonic storms has markedly improved twelve years after Cyclone Hudhud struck the coast in 2014. They highlighted enhancements in early‑warning systems, with the Indian Meteorological Department now issuing alerts that reach vulnerable communities faster and more accurately.
The administration has also expanded the network of cyclone shelters, upgraded coastal embankments and reinforced critical infrastructure such as power lines and roads. Regular evacuation drills are conducted in high‑risk districts, and coordination between the state disaster response force, the National Disaster Response Force and local police has been streamlined.
Officials said these measures, combined with better community awareness programmes, have reduced the expected loss of life and property in recent storm events. While the state remains vigilant, the consensus among authorities is that the lessons learned from Hudhud have translated into a more robust preparedness framework.
