The Punjab health authority in Amritsar has begun a Friday‑only anti‑larval operation aimed at curbing dengue spread.

Amritsar's health department has initiated a dedicated anti‑larval campaign that will be conducted every Friday, targeting mosquito breeding sites to stem the rise of dengue cases in the city. The initiative, announced by the Punjab health authority, comes as the monsoon season intensifies, creating favourable conditions for Aedes mosquitoes.

Field teams equipped with larvicidal chemicals will inspect residential colonies, public parks, and drainage areas, applying treatment to stagnant water where mosquito larvae develop. The operation also includes removal of discarded containers and public awareness drives to encourage residents to eliminate potential breeding grounds.

Officials expect the weekly interventions to reduce the local mosquito population and, consequently, the incidence of dengue fever. The health department is coordinating with municipal bodies and local volunteers to ensure comprehensive coverage across all wards.

Residents have been urged to cooperate by keeping their premises clean, covering water storage containers, and reporting any suspected breeding sites to the nearest health office.
