ABVP members smash MCD office in Delhi over building collapse

Students from ABVP staged a protest and damaged the Municipal Corporation of Delhi office after a recent building collapse, demanding accountability.
Delhi – Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) gathered outside the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) office on Monday, expressing anger over a recent building collapse that claimed several lives. The protesters broke windows, smashed doors and threw objects inside the premises, turning the demonstration into a violent act of vandalism.
Witnesses said the group shouted slogans blaming the MCD for alleged negligence in building inspections and enforcement of safety norms. The protest escalated after the students demanded an immediate inquiry and compensation for the victims' families.
Delhi police arrived promptly, forming a cordon around the building and attempting to disperse the crowd. Several ABVP members were detained for causing damage to public property, while the police filed a case under sections relating to vandalism and unlawful assembly.
The MCD office remained partially inaccessible for several hours as officials assessed the damage and cleared the site. Authorities have not yet released a detailed report on the building collapse, but the incident has heightened public scrutiny of municipal oversight.
The ABVP has announced that it will continue to press for a transparent investigation, while city officials have urged calm and promised to cooperate with any official probe.
