A 60‑year‑old woman, Shyama Devi, was reported missing after being swept into flood‑ridden waters of the Ganga near Tyagi Baba Thakurbadi in Maranchi, Bihar, early Wednesday.
Around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, local residents reported that Shyama Devi, a 60‑year‑old woman, was pulled under the flood‑laden currents of the Ganga while bathing near the Tyagi Baba Thakurbadi shrine in the Maranchi police‑station area of Bihar's flood‑prone sub‑division.
Search teams, including police and volunteers, combed the riverbank and surrounding fields from morning until evening, but no trace of the woman was found. Her family members, who arrived at the site shortly after the incident, expressed deep anguish and have been pleading for assistance.
The incident comes as the region grapples with rising water levels following recent heavy rains. Local authorities have warned residents to avoid bathing or wading in the river until the flow recedes, and they continue to monitor the situation for any further developments.
