Nearly three lakh state employees in Punjab will observe a strike today, leading to road blockades and the closure of outpatient departments, while the chief minister has summoned a delegation to Jalandhar.
Around 300,000 employees of the Punjab state administration are slated to walk out on strike today, marking one of the largest coordinated labour actions in the region. The protest is being organised in support of a range of demands raised by the workforce.
The strike is expected to disrupt normal traffic flow, with thousands of workers taking to the streets and blocking key thoroughfares across the state. In addition, outpatient departments of government hospitals have been ordered to remain closed during the protest period.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann responded by convening a senior delegation and directing it to travel to Jalandhar for talks with employee representatives. The CM emphasized the government's willingness to address the concerns raised, while also urging participants to maintain public order.
Authorities have warned that any escalation beyond peaceful demonstration could invite legal action, and they are monitoring the situation closely to ensure essential services are not unduly affected.
