24 Deaths in Indore Linked to Sewage-Contaminated Municipal Water

A probe has been launched after 24 residents of Indore died from consuming water contaminated with sewage through the city’s municipal supply.
Twenty‑four people in Indore have been confirmed dead after drinking water that was tainted with sewage through the municipal distribution system, officials said. The fatalities were reported over the past few days, prompting immediate concern among health authorities.
The Madhya Pradesh Health Department, together with the municipal corporation, has opened a formal investigation to determine how sewage entered the drinking‑water network. Samples from the affected pipelines are being collected for laboratory analysis, and a task force has been constituted to trace the source of contamination.
Residents have been advised to avoid using tap water for drinking or cooking until the probe concludes and remedial measures are implemented. The authorities have also announced plans to disinfect the supply lines and to provide alternative safe water sources to the affected neighborhoods.
