A boat overturned in the Bagmati tributary at Aurai, Muzaffarpur, leaving 15‑year‑old Rani Kumari missing while 13 passengers swam to safety.
Muzaffarpur district officials reported that a small passenger boat capsized in the Bagmati tributary near Aurai village on Saturday. The vessel was carrying 14 people, including 15‑year‑old student Rani Kumari, who could not be accounted for after the accident.
Thirteen passengers managed to swim ashore without injury, confirming that the boat overturned suddenly, likely due to strong currents. Local residents assisted the survivors and alerted authorities.
The district administration, together with a team of local divers, has launched a search operation for the missing teenager. Divers are combing the riverbank and nearby water channels while police have set up a temporary command centre to coordinate rescue efforts.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information on Rani Kumari's whereabouts and have urged people to avoid the riverbank until the search is concluded.
