A historian has confirmed that an ancient stone inscription unearthed in Ranga Reddy district belongs to the 11th‑century Kalyani Chalukya dynasty.
A historian, speaking to Telangana Today, has identified a stone inscription uncovered in Ranga Reddy district as belonging to the Kalyani Chalukya dynasty of the 11th century. The artifact was found during routine surveys of the area and its script and stylistic features match known examples from the period when the Chalukyas ruled large parts of the Deccan.
The Kalyani Chalukyas, also known as the Western Chalukyas, were a prominent power between the 10th and 12th centuries, leaving a legacy of temple architecture and epigraphic records across present‑day Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana. The newly identified inscription adds to the sparse corpus of their epigraphic evidence in the Telangana region, suggesting a broader administrative reach than previously documented.
Archaeologists say the find could prompt further fieldwork in and around Ranga Reddy, as scholars seek to map the extent of Chalukyan influence. Conservation officials have been alerted to secure the stone and prevent weathering, while plans are underway to photograph and digitise the text for academic study.
