Authorities in Uttarakhand have ordered the closure of ten schools starting today after a spike in dog attacks on school premises.
Uttarakhand officials announced that ten schools across the state will remain closed from today following a noticeable rise in dog attacks on school grounds. The decision, taken by the state education department in coordination with local law‑enforcement agencies, aims to protect students and staff from further incidents.
Reports over the past weeks have highlighted several instances where stray dogs entered school compounds, causing panic among children and, in some cases, minor injuries. Parents and teachers expressed growing concern as the frequency of these encounters increased, prompting the authorities to act swiftly.
The department has stated that the schools will stay shut until adequate safety measures—such as enhanced fencing, regular animal control patrols, and awareness programmes—are put in place. In the meantime, students are being advised to attend alternative nearby institutions where possible.
Officials also urged pet owners and municipal bodies to intensify efforts to manage stray dog populations, emphasizing that a coordinated approach is essential to prevent future disruptions to education.
