A 23‑year‑old hunter died after stepping into an electric wire set up for game in Shahdol forest, Madhya Pradesh, prompting criticism of forest‑department oversight.
A 23‑year‑old man was found dead in Shahdol forest, Madhya Pradesh, after he came into contact with an electric wire that had been installed to trap wildlife for hunting. Forest officials discovered the live wire at the site and confirmed that the current caused the fatal electrocution.
The incident occurred amid a spate of recent predator attacks in the region, where tigers and leopards have been blamed for several deaths. Authorities said the hunting setup was illegal and highlighted gaps in routine patrolling and monitoring by the forest department.
Local wildlife officials have opened an inquiry into how the wire was placed and why it remained undetected despite recent patrols. The death has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of hunting bans and improved surveillance in protected areas.
No further details about the victim’s identity or the exact location within the forest have been released pending the investigation.
