Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi to attend the BRICS summit, marking his first visit to India since the 2020 Galwan valley clash.

Chinese President Xi Jinping touched down in New Delhi on Monday to take part in the upcoming BRICS summit. The visit is notable as his first official trip to India since the Galwan valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops in 2020, a confrontation that strained bilateral ties for several years.

The summit, scheduled later this week, will bring together leaders from Brazil, Russia, South Africa and the host nation India to discuss cooperation on trade, technology and geopolitical issues. Officials say the meeting provides an opportunity for Xi to reset relations with New Delhi and to showcase China’s role in the multilateral grouping.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to host a series of bilateral talks with Xi on the sidelines of the summit, focusing on trade, border confidence‑building measures and regional security. Both sides have indicated a willingness to move beyond past disputes while maintaining core national interests.
