Xi Jinping Misses Modi’s BRICS Day Dinner in New Delhi

On the opening day of the BRICS summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend the dinner organised by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The dinner was intended to mark the first day of the summit and to deepen cooperation among the five member countries. Sources close to the Indian foreign ministry said Xi’s itinerary included bilateral meetings with other leaders and a separate engagement, which led to his absence from the dinner. While the Indian side expressed disappointment at the missed opportunity for informal interaction, it reaffirmed its commitment to the summit’s agenda. The dinner proceeded with other heads of state, senior officials and business leaders, and the summit will continue with a full schedule of meetings over the coming days.
