World Uyghur Congress Calls for Global Action on China’s Uyghur Rights Violations

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC), a global advocacy group for the Uyghur people, has issued a fresh appeal for decisive international measures against what it describes as systematic human‑rights violations by China in Xinjiang. In a statement released to media outlets, the WUC urged governments, multilateral bodies and civil‑society organisations to move beyond diplomatic rhetoric and adopt concrete actions such as targeted sanctions, trade restrictions and independent investigations.

The organization highlighted recent reports of mass detentions, forced labour and cultural suppression, calling them evidence of a broader campaign to erase Uyghur identity. It also warned that the continued inaction of the global community could embolden further abuses and undermine international human‑rights norms.

While the WUC did not name specific countries, it encouraged nations that have already expressed concern to translate their statements into policy, and invited the United Nations to convene an urgent special session on the issue. The appeal comes amid growing scrutiny of China’s policies in Xinjiang and mounting pressure from several Western capitals to address the allegations.
