Women Protest at Bhopal Collectorat Over 50-Year-Old Gufa Temple Road Blockage

Around 50‑year‑old Gufa Temple‑Barela road, closed for several years, sparked anger among villagers, leading women to gather at Bhopal Collectorat and sit on its steps on Tuesday.
The narrow road that connects the historic Gufa Temple with the village of Barela, a route that has served locals for about half a century, has been inaccessible for the past three to four years due to an indefinite closure. Villagers say the blockage forces them to take a much longer detour for daily chores, school, and market trips, creating hardship especially for women who walk the distance.
On Tuesday, a group of women from the affected villages travelled to the Bhopal Collectorat, where they assembled on the staircases of the building and staged a sit‑in. Holding placards and voicing their grievances, they demanded that the authorities reopen the road immediately, describing the situation as a growing inconvenience and a safety concern.
Local officials were approached during the demonstration, but no concrete timetable for clearing the obstruction was announced. The protest continued for several hours, with the women urging the district administration to prioritize the repair work and restore the traditional link between the temple and the village.
