During the recent Special Index of Registration, Karnataka recorded a 3.7‑lakh advantage for women over men in the voter list.

The Karnataka Election Commission’s latest Special Index of Registration (SIR) has shown a marked shift in the state’s voter gender balance. Women now lead men by approximately 370,000 registered voters, reversing a long‑standing male advantage.

Election officials said the surge reflects intensified outreach to women in rural and urban areas, as well as increased awareness of the importance of female participation in the democratic process. The data, released ahead of upcoming state elections, underscores a growing gender parity among the electorate.

Analysts note that the gender gap swing could influence party strategies, with candidates likely to tailor campaigns to address issues that resonate with women voters. The commission will continue to monitor registration trends as the election calendar progresses.

The updated voter roll will be used for the forthcoming polls, and the commission has urged all eligible citizens to verify their details before the final list is published.
