The Jammu & Kashmir government has placed several women officers in key administrative and police positions, marking a significant step towards gender inclusion in the region's governance.

The state administration of Jammu & Kashmir announced the appointment of a number of women officers to senior roles across its civil services and police hierarchy. The move is part of a broader effort to improve gender representation in public institutions and to bring diverse perspectives to decision‑making processes.

Among the appointments, female officers have been assigned to lead critical departments such as the Home Department, Revenue Division and the District Police Headquarters. Their responsibilities include overseeing law‑and‑order strategies, managing revenue administration and coordinating disaster‑response measures.

Officials said the selections were based on merit and experience, with the appointed officers having served in various capacities for several years. The government expects their inclusion to enhance efficiency, promote gender‑sensitive policies and inspire more women to pursue careers in administration and policing.

The initiative aligns with central government directives encouraging greater participation of women in security and governance roles across the country. It also reflects the regional administration's commitment to modernising its workforce and addressing long‑standing gender gaps.

Stakeholders, including civil society groups, have welcomed the decision, noting that visible representation can strengthen public trust and improve community outreach, especially in sensitive areas of the union territory.
