A woman's body was found floating in the Sunar River near Harat bridge in Damoh’s Hata area on Sunday evening, later carried to Ghuraghat by strong currents, with locals accusing police of delayed response.

A woman’s corpse was discovered floating in the Sunar River close to the Harat bridge in the Hata region of Damoh district on Sunday evening. The body was first sighted near the bridge before the rapid current carried it downstream to the Ghuraghat area.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was deployed to the site and recovered the remains after the river’s swift flow made manual retrieval difficult. Officials confirmed that the body had been swept by the strong currents that have been reported in the river following recent rains.

Local residents expressed frustration over what they described as a delayed police presence at the scene. Several eyewitnesses alleged that law‑enforcement officers arrived only after the body had already been carried away, prompting calls for a faster response in future emergencies. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
