A resident of Telangana paid Rs 79 lakh for a residential villa that was marketed at a total cost of Rs 2.14 crore. The buyer entered into a sale agreement with the developer based on the advertised price and the promise of a completed, ready‑to‑move‑in home.
Despite the full payment, the construction work on the villa remained incomplete months after the agreed handover date. The buyer lodged a formal complaint, alleging that the developer had failed to deliver the promised amenities and structural work, leaving the property in a partially built state.
The Telangana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) took cognizance of the grievance and issued an order directing the developer to either complete the construction within a stipulated timeframe or refund the amount paid, along with applicable interest. The authority also warned of penalties for non‑compliance, signaling a stricter enforcement of consumer protection norms in the state’s real‑estate sector.
