A 22-year-old man in Junardev, Madhya Pradesh, suffered severe abdominal pain on Saturday. With no ambulance available, a local woman fashioned a makeshift stretcher from a sari, and the patient reached the hospital after a six‑hour trek through forest paths.

On Saturday morning, Raju Dhiku, a 22‑year‑old resident of Peelhavadi village in Junardev, experienced sudden, excruciating abdominal pain. Local emergency services failed to dispatch an ambulance promptly, leaving the family without immediate medical transport.

A neighbor, seeing the urgency, improvised a stretcher using a sari and carried the patient on a makeshift pallet. The group navigated dense forest trails for approximately six hours before arriving at the nearest government hospital.

Medical staff at the facility reported that the delay in reaching professional care could have worsened the condition, underscoring the critical shortage of ambulance services in remote parts of Madhya Pradesh. Authorities have been urged to improve emergency response infrastructure in the region.

The incident highlights the reliance on community ingenuity in rural India when formal health services are inaccessible, and it raises questions about the adequacy of existing emergency medical provisions.
