A wild elephant entered Singpur Mahari village in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday night, destroying two houses, crushing livestock and causing the death of an elderly resident.
On Tuesday night, a lone wild elephant broke into Singpur Mahari, a village in the Ramnagar area of Mahār district, Madhya Pradesh. Residents reported hearing loud trumpeting before the massive animal roamed the narrow lanes, startling the community.
The elephant forced its way into two adjacent houses, tearing walls, roofs and doors. The impact collapsed parts of the structures, trapping several goats under the debris; two of the animals were found dead. In the chaos, an elderly man who attempted to intervene was fatally injured.
Local police and forest officials arrived promptly, cordoning off the area and attempting to guide the animal away from the settlement. Veterinary teams attended to the injured livestock, while emergency services transported the deceased to the nearest hospital.
Authorities have warned that increasing human‑elephant encounters in the region are linked to habitat loss and have urged villagers to remain vigilant, reporting any sightings immediately to forest department helplines.
